J.H. Grundmann Oboe

Grundmann worked in Dresden and was especially famous for his oboes, many of which continued to be used well into the 19th century. This is the historically correct type of instrument to use for the music of Mozart, Haydn and their contemporaries. Two keys, only 3rd hole doubled. Extra keys can be made for this instrument for $ 135 per key

J.F. Floth Oboe

Floth worked for Grundmann for 17 years and continued making wind instruments in the same workshop for another seven after Grundmann’s death in 1800. Like other makers of his generation, he pioneered the addition of extra keys for low C#, F, F#, G#, Bb, and the octave (or slur) key. A key for low B is also available on request for an additional $ 135. Eight keys, 3rd hole doubled.

This is a classical period English Horn in the key of F. It is built in three sections like a taille, but also has a small connecting piece with two sockets at 45 degree angles which “bends” the bore, giving it an angled appearance. It features a bulb-shaped bell similar to the baroque oboe d’amore. Two keys, 3rd hole doubled.

An optional extended version is available for an additional $500.

The extended version with two extra keys for low F# and E is shown at right. An optional octave key for the top joint (not shown) is also available for an additional $150. Ornamental rings can be added for $50. each.
